For U.S. Senate: not Dick Durbin

U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin has by historical standards been one of the luckiest politicians in the state's history.
He's now seeking his third term. In his other Senate campaigns he faced marginal competition and won easily, and that was before Illinois' Republican Party collapsed into a state of near complete dysfunction.
This year is no exception: Durbin is running against Dr. Steve Sauerberg, a physician and sacrificial lamb, and he'll win easily. We've made no secret over the years of our distaste for Durbin's style of politics. He's spent almost his entire adult life on one public payroll or another and proved himself a political opportunist at nearly every turn.
How many people know that when Durbin first sought office he was a strong pro-life candidate? When he discovered his pro-life position would impede his rise in the Democratic Party, he switched his position.
One of the Senate's many millionaires, he's steadily climbed the ladder to the No. 2 post on the Democratic leadership team. In that position, he puts his partisan instincts to good use, blasting Republicans at every opportunity for real and imagined sins. Sometimes he gives his tongue too much free rein, like the time he likened U.S. troops in Iraq to Nazis or guards in Soviet gulags. Durbin caught so much flak he had to issue an insincere apology to cover his back.
This year Durbin is running again as a protector of the interests of the little guy. His ads portray him as a leader in the fight to lower gasoline costs.
Why then does the Democratic Party's leadership, of which Durbin is a part, oppose drilling in Alaska and in so many oil-rich areas offshore? He's just another in a long line of deceitful politicians who pretend to care about the folks back home.
As for Sauerberg, he has little money and no chance. He acquitted himself well in a debate with Durbin, but hardly anybody listened. Obviously Sauerberg is an intelligent, successful man who has done something else in his life besides run for public office. That's why Sauerburg – or almost anyone else – is preferred over Durbin.

I guess Illinois will never be able to get rid of these greedy, grubby little people like Dick Durbin. He has done nothing for this state, except fill his pockets with our tax dollars. Once you get rats in the house, you can never get them out. Folks, it's time for term limits.

Great article on Dickhead Durbin. I despise his dishonesty along with almost all of the corrupt Democrats who are bankrupting our State with their greed. Unfortunately, we the voters keep electing these crooks......so I guess we get what we deserve!

When the N-G looks in the mirror, it sees Dick Durbin. Both serve one purpose -- to protect and bend for their corporate allies.
The N-G is Dick Durbin.
"Obviously Sauerberg is an intelligent, successful man who has done something else in his life besides run for public office."
It's beyond laughable that a newspaper that endorsed McCain/Palin can say it supports intelligence in a candidate.
