Beyond the arc: Gavitt Tipoff sets up interesting matchups

There's really no true offseason for college basketball. Here's three things that caught our college basketball writer and top 25 voter's attention in the last week:

(Five-star) Men of Troy

Southern California associate head coach Tony Bland was arrested in October on federal bribery and corruption charges. A killing blow to Andy Enfield's tenure? Maybe not. He hired Eric Mobley, who has five-star sons in the 2019 and 2020 classes, as an assistant in March, and his ties to the Compton Magic AAU program landed the Trojans five-star center Onyeka Okongwu on Monday.

The fourth annual Gavitt Tipoff Games will present some interesting matchups. The obvious is the national title game rematch between Michigan and Villanova, but there's plenty to like digging a little deeper. Immediate replacement

One of the top graduate transfers went off the board to Texas Tech on Monday with South Dakota guard Matt Mooney opting to join the Red Raiders. They needed it, too. Losing Keenan Evans to graduation and Zhaire Smith left a hole in the Tech backcourt. It's one Mooney, who averaged 18.7 points, 4.1 rebounds and 3.1 assists for the Coyotes, can fill alongside rising sophomore Jarrett Culver.
