CHAMPAIGN — A member of the South African Davis Cup team will play tennis starting next season at Illinois.

The Illini men's tennis team announced Tuesday the signing of Siphosothando Monsti, becoming the third recruit to sign with Illinois for the 2018-19 season along with Lucas Horve and Keenan Mayo.

Monsti has won three International Tennis Federation singles titles and three ITF doubles titles and climbed to No. 92 in the world at one point in the ITF junior rankings.

"We are tremendously excited to add Siphis to the team," Illinois coach Brad Dancer said. "On his visit, he immersed himself with the guys and almost instantly, we felt like he was part of our culture. He's a terrific student and a proven winner on the court.
