Illini golfers in the pros this week

Just more than a half dozen other former Illini are playing this week. We have the breakdown and how they've fared this season:


Travelers Championship — Cromwell, Conn.

D.A. Points

It's been a rough 2018 for Points, who's missed the cut in his last dozen tournaments. He made two cuts in January, finishing 33rd at the Sentry Tournament of Champions.

Nick Hardy

A more recent former Illini like Dylan Meyer, Hardy will follow up his successful collegiate career by making his first PGA Tour start as a professional at the Travelers. 


BMW International Open — Pulheim, Germany

Thomas Detry

The 2016 Illini grad earned his European Tour card this season and has made the cut in 11 of 14 events with a season high tie for ninth at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship.

Thomas Pieters

The top golfer in Belgium has split his time between the European and PGA tours and is coming off a tie for 14th at the Italian Open earlier this month.


American Family Insurance Championship — Madison, Wis.

Steve Stricker

Stricker heads back to the Champions Tour — where he has two wins in five starts — after finishing tied for 20th this past weekend at the U.S. Open.

Mike Small

The Illini coach is in a Champions Tour field for the second time this month after finishing tied for ninth at the Principal Charity Classic.


Wichita Open — Wichita, Kan.

Luke Guthrie

The Quincy native has missed the cut in seven of his last nine tournaments after consecutive top 20 finishes earlier in the season in Colombia and Mexico.

Scott Langley

The recent Illini Hall of Famer is close to earning back his PGA Tour card currently sitting second on the money list thanks to a win and three other top 10s.
