More than two dozen Illinois recruiting targets played in major AAU events last week. Beat writer SCOTT RICHEY breaks down five of the best before the second evaluation period of July gets going this week:

Dontaie Allen

Allen hit four-star status this week after his weekend at the Under Armour Challenge in Atlanta netted him eight offers — Illinois, Louisville, Auburn and Oklahoma among them. The 6-foot-6 2019 wing from Kentucky led all players in scoring and put up 26.4 points, 6.8 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game.

Quincy Guerrier

That open scholarship Illinois is holding on to could come in handy by December. That's when Guerrier reportedly intends to enroll and redshirt the rest of the 2018-19 season. The 6-foot-7, 190-pound four-star Canadian wing averaged 25.5 points and 6.8 rebounds at the adidas Gauntlet Finale in New York City.

Kofi Cockburn

Illinois has a Christ the King (N.Y.) center on its roster for the 2018-19 season in Adonis De La Rosa and wouldn't mind adding another in the 2019 class. The Illini have made Cockburn a priority, and the 6-10 big man showed what he's capable of at Peach Jam, putting up 17.8 points and nine rebounds in dominating fashion at times.

Drew Timme

There might not be a better fit for Brad Underwood's offense than Timme. The 2019 four-star Texan has a diverse skill set that makes the 6-foot-9, 210-pound prospect just as comfortable operating in the post as he is with the ball in his hands in transition. The top 40 recruit averaged 16.4 points, 10 rebounds and 2.6 assists at Peach Jam.

Kahlil Whitney

While Mac Irvin Fire just missed qualifying for Peach Jam, Whitney still put together a dominant performance at the Peach Invitational. The 6-7, five-star wing in the Class of 2019 produced four 20-point games, two double-doubles and put up 22.2 points, 10 rebounds and 1.2 steals in four games in Augusta, Ga.
