Quick hits: Illini falter in second half

Beat writer Scott Richey breaks down the Illini's 77-67 loss to Ohio State on Wednesday night in Chicago:

WHAT HAPPENED

Illinois had the top 25 Buckeyes on the ropes with its pressure defense. At least in the first half. Then the Illini flipped on the "foul everybody" switch and watched their lead disappear.

WHAT IT MEANS

Glimpses of what Illinois could be were on display in Chicago, but they ultimately proved fleeting. The Illini are team still trying to figure out how to win. They're not there yet.

WHAT'S NEXT

Illinois (2-7) jumps back into nonconference action after the early journey — and two losses — in the sneak preview of Big Ten play. A home game against UNLV come Saturday.
