Illini Basketball Report Card: vs. East Tennessee State, Dec. 15, 2018

PLAYER OF THE GAME

Illinois sophomore guard Trent Frazier

Illini coach Brad Underwood said after the win that Frazier knew he'd log extended minutes in this one, with Ayo Dosunmu's benching for tardiness. The sophomore Frazier delivered under pressure, hitting three-pointers at a 6-of-9 clip and adding five assists and three steals while playing a team-high 33 minutes and showing no ill effects from last week's tailbone injury.

BACKCOURT

Illinois: A-

ETSU: F

There's little to complain about on the Illinois side. Frazier was lights-out, Aaron Jordan shot poorly but posted 10 boards and four assists. Da'Monte Williams didn't hurt his squad. Meanwhile, Isaiah Tisdale was ejected for ETSU, and both Bo Hodges and Tray Boyd III were invisible.

FRONTCOURT

Illinois: B+

ETSU: D

Again, a strongly-performing area for the Illini. Kipper Nichols and Giorgi Bezhanishvili combined for 29 points, 15 rebounds and just three turnovers. Nichols also drew three charges. Jeromy Rodriguez, averaging 12 rebounds a night entering this one, finished with just seven.

BENCH

Illinois: B

ETSU: A-

Illinois didn't get as much from its reserves as in the prior win over UNLV, but didn't really need it. Samba Kane continues to make positive strides. Daivien Williamson and Patrick Good were ETSU's leading scorers off the bench at 19 and 11 points, respectively.

OVERALL

Illinois: B+

ETSU: D+

A rip-roaring first half was more than enough to overcome a so-so second frame for Illinois. Underwood's men have a lot to hang their hats on. The Bucs, better in the final 20 minutes, were doomed by a slow start.
