Illini Basketball Report Card: vs. Iowa, March 14, 2019

Player of the game | Iowa senior forward Nicholas Baer

Baer didn't really get in on Iowa's three-point barrage against Illinois in January, although he did knock down a couple. He caught up to his teammates Thursday night in Chicago, shooting 5 of 6 from beyond the arc for 17 points to go with four rebounds and two assists.

Ayo Dosunmu's best game at the United Center. A breakout performance for Tevian Jones. Another solid night for Trent Frazier. The Illini were fine offensively, but the number of open Iowa three-pointers was a clear deciding factor in the Hawkeyes' rout.

The Illini actually went toe to toe on points in the paint with the Hawkeyes, as Giorgi Bezhanishvili got into double figures for the second night in a row with 12 points. But he alone couldn't counter Tyler Cook, Luka Garza and Ryan Kriener.

With Baer leading the way, the Hawkeyes' reserves basically doubled up the Illini. Jones had his most productive game in more than a month with 11 points (playing more obviously helped), but Illinois didn't get its usual production from Andres Feliz.

Overall

Illinois: D-

Iowa: A

Plain and simple, the typically high-scoring (especially against Illinois) Hawkeyes out-gunned the Illini. Illinois managed to keep pace in the first half, but couldn't match Iowa's second-half push.
