Rangers giving Hudson a look

ARLINGTON, Texas — Former Illinois All-American Kyle Hudson has signed a minor league contract with the Texas Rangers that includes an invitation to the team's major league spring training camp.

Hudson, 25, had been a free agent since Jan. 19, when he was released by the Baltimore Orioles. The former Illini outfielder made his major league debut last September, hitting .143 in 28 at-bats. Hudson started eight games for the Orioles, including seven in right field and one in center.

Prior to his call-up, the left-handed batter hit a combined .296 with a .375 on-base percentage in 119 games at three minor league levels last season.
