Illini fall to Lions gymnasts

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — Paul Ruggeri won the vault, floor exercise and the parallel bars but No. 3 Illinois dropped a 347.800-346.500 decision to No. 2 Penn State in men's gymnastics Saturday.

C.J. Maestas, who finished second to Ruggeri on the parallel bars, won the horizontal bar.

In baseball:

Illini fall to Louisville. Willie Argo and Davis Hendrickson each had a hit and an RBI for the Illini in a 4-3 loss to No. 25 Louisville at St. Petersburg, Fla., in the Big Ten/Big East Challenge.

The Illini (0-2) fell behind 4-0, but Justin Parr, Brandon Hohl and Reid Roper all scored for the Illini in the three-run seventh inning to close the gap.

In women's swimming & diving:

Rodriguez sets mark. Erin Rodriguez finished 21st in the 200 butterfly (2 minutes, 1.74 seconds), setting the school record in the process, and Jessica Holz finished 23rd in the 200 backstroke for Illinois at the Big Ten meet at Iowa City, Iowa. The Illini finished 10th in the team standings.
