Riley earns two indoor titles

LINCOLN, Neb. — Illinois' Andrew Riley won the 60-meter dash (6.63 seconds) and the 60 hurdles (7.74) at the men's Big Ten Indoor Championships on Friday.

Teammate Cody Wisslead was second in the 60 hurdles.

In women's track & field:

Ejesieme shines in hurdles. Jessica Ejesieme's fifth-place finish in the 60 hurdles (8.28 seconds) was the highlight of the day for Illinois at the Big Ten Indoor Championships at Lincoln Neb.

Asia Thomas was sixth in the 400 (55.32), Katie Porada was seventh in the mile (4 minutes, 50.07 seconds) and Amanda Duvendack was seventh in the 800 (2:10.65).

In baseball:

Bulldogs pull away late. Michael Hurwitz recorded a hit and scored a run, but the Illini gave up eight runs in the seventh and eighth innings in dropping a 13-3 decision to Gonzaga at the YMBL Cardinal Classic at Beaumont, Texas.

Will Krug (run) and Thomas Shelton (RBI) also had a hit for Illinois. Starter Kevin Johnson pitched 42/3 innings and gave up five runs (one earned) on nine hits.

In softball:

Gay sparkles in split. Pepper Gay tossed a one-hit shutout, striking out six for Illinois in a 2-0 win against Hofstra at the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Clearwater, Fla. Jessica Davis had a hit, an RBI and a run.

The Illini dropped the opener 8-0 to South Florida. Meredith Hackett, Jenna Mychko and Stephanie Cuevas all had hits.
