Hohl, Johnson spark baseball win
CARBONDALE — Brandon Hohl collected two hits and drove in three runs as the Illinois baseball team picked up an 8-2 win against Southern Illinois to kick off its spring break trip Friday.
Willie Argo, Reid Roper (RBI), Davis Hendrickson and Will Krug had two hits apiece to back a solid outing by winning pitcher Kevin Anderson (3-1). The right-hander struck out eight and allowed seven hits and two runs (one earned) in seven innings.
Illini win a pair. Brittany Sanchez singled home two runs during a three-run sixth inning, lifting the Illini to a 5-4 win against Boston University at the USF Under Armour Invitational in Clearwater, Fla. Danielle Vaji (RBI) and Nikki Simpson had two hits apiece for the Illini, and Kelley Wedel added a solo home run.
The Illini picked up a 3-1 win earlier in the day against Providence behind pitcher Jackie Guy (3-7), who tossed a one-hitter with seven strikeouts.
Vaji and Jess Perkins each drove in one run for Illinois.
In women's golf:
Big Ten honors Dilger. Illini senior Katelin Dilger was named Big Ten Women's Golfer of the Week, the conference office announced Friday.
The Palmdale, Calif., native led Illinois to a fifth-place finish in the 18-team Eagle Landing Invitational last weekend at Orange Park Fla.
Dilger equaled her career-low 54-hole score of 221 to tie for 13th place. She was the Illini's top scorer in a tournament for the first time this season and earned the Big Ten weekly award for the first time in her career.
