Golfers third in Augusta
AUGUSTA, Ga. — Illinois fired a 6-under 282, the second-best round of the season, to cap a third-place finish at the Augusta State Invitational on Sunday.
The Illini were 8 shots behind No. 1 Texas and host Augusta State.
Illinois' Thomas Pieters (9 under) tied for sixth and Mason Jacobs (7 under) tied for ninth.
Kravetz paces baseball. John Kravetz faced three over batters over the minimum in a solid seven-inning start, leading the Illini baseball team to a series sweep of Mississippi Valley State with a 7-1 victory.
Jordan Parr and Brandon Hohl homered to pace the Illini (15-10) offense.
Softball falls in extras. Pepper Gay was the hard-luck loser, pitching into the 10th inning as the Illini softball team dropped a 1-0 decision at Iowa. Gay walked in the deciding run with one out in the 10th inning.
Men's tennis rolls. No. 4 Dennis Nevolo, Tim Kopinski and Ross Guignon picked up singles wins in a 4-2 Illinois victory against visiting Minnesota.
Nevolo and Roy Kalmanovich, ranked 45th, upset the Gophers' No. 22 doubles team.
Women's tennis wins again. Illinois, ranked 21st, earned its sixth straight women's tennis victory as the Illini won 6-1 at Minnesota.
Illinois' Melissa Kopinski and Marisa Lambropoulos teamed to knock off Minnesota's No. 39 doubles team 8-1.
Kopinski, Lambropoulos, Allison Falkin, Amy Allin and Rachel White earned singles wins.
