PARK RIDGE — Illinois center fielder Willie Argo was selected to the All-Big Ten first team in baseball, the conference office announced Tuesday.

The senior is a three-time all-conference choice, having earned third-team honors in 2009 and 2011. The last Illini to be selected as many as three times was first baseman Andy Schutzenhofer, a four-time honoree (2000-03).

Argo finished fifth in Big Ten history in career stolen bases with a school-record 98. He also holds UI records for career steals in Big Ten play (38) and single-season steals (41 in 2010).

This season, Argo ranks third in the Big Ten in steals with 22. He also tied for second in runs scored (24) in Big Ten-only games.

The Davenport, Iowa, native hit .318 as a senior, second highest among Illini regulars, and led the team in on-base percentage (.430), runs (47) and stolen bases.

Illini left fielder Justin Parr and shortstop Thomas Lindauer were third-team selections. It was the first career all-conference honors for both.

Parr, a junior who hit .290, led Illinois in triples (four) and tied for second in RBI (38). Lindauer, a sophomore in his first season as a full-time starter, hit .279 and limited his errors to seven in 254 fielding chances for a .972 fielding percentage.

Former Parkland College pitcher Nick Wittgren of Purdue was named to the third team as a reliever. The junior right-hander leads the Big Ten in saves with nine and has a 2-0 record and 1.78 ERA in 22 appearances. It was Wittgren's second All-Big Ten honor following a second-team selection in 2011.
