Distance medley sets record
SOUTH BEND, Ind. â€” Illinoisâ€™ Kyle Engnell, Stephon Pamilton, Ryan Lynn and Graham Morris broke an 18-year-old school record in the distance medley relay, finishing sixth overall in 9 minutes, 29.40 seconds Friday at the Alex Wilson Last Chance meet.
The previous record (9:36.33) was set in 1995 by Eric Henson, Ben Beyers, Chris Saunders and Marko Koers.
â€śIâ€™m really excited for Kyle Engnell and Ryan Lynn, two upperclassmen who stuck with the program and get to go to the NCAA meet in their last season,â€ť UI assistant coach Jake Stewart said.
Tennis team cruises. No. 17 Illinois defeated visiting Iowa 7-0 on Friday night in menâ€™s tennis.
The Illini have won 18 consecutive matches against the Hawkeyes.
Duchene delivers. Freshman Kevin Duchene was one out shy of tossing a complete-game shutout, leading Illinois to an 8-3 victory against Houston Baptist on Friday in Arlington, Texas.
Softball team drops two. Leadoff batter Alex Booker went 3 for 4 with a run, but No. 19 Kentucky defeated Illinois 5-4 in eight innings Friday in Tampa, Fla.
The Illini (5-11) led 1-0 in the fifth inning against South Florida, but the Bulls rallied for a 3-2 victory.
