Mori, Wilner shine in defeat

CHAMPAIGN — Senior Yoshi Mori won titles on floor and pommel horse, but seventh-ranked Illinois lost 438.900-436.250 to top-ranked Penn State in men’s gymnastics Saturday night at Huff Hall.

Mike Wilner posted the Illini’s best mark ever (15.900) to claim the rings crown.

In baseball:

Team sweeps. Freshman Nick Blackburn and senior Kevin Johnson each won their second games of the season, lifting Illinois to a baseball sweep Saturday in Arlington, Texas.

The Illini (7-3), who have won six consecutive games, defeated Houston Baptist 12-3 and Texas-Arlington 7-3.

In softball:

Squad splits. Alex Booker had three hits and two RBI for Illinois’ softball team in its split Saturday in Clearwater, Fla.

The Illini defeated Maine 7-1 but lost 6-0 to Toledo.
