Baseball falls to EIU
CHAMPAIGN — Thomas Lindauer hit a three-run home run in the ninth inning, but it wasn’t enough as the Illinois baseball team lost 8-4 to Eastern Illinois on Tuesday.
The Illini committed three errors in the sixth inning and the Panthers capitalized by scoring all eight of their runs in the frame.
“It’s tough to win a game when you get outplayed in all three aspects,” Illini coach Dan Hartleb said. “Eastern outpitched us, played better defense than us and outhit us. They played a good game and came up with the big inning.”
Justin Parr homered and freshman Kevin Duchene (4-1) struck out a career-high five in 51/3 solid innings for Illinois, which fell to 19-10.
Women’s golf in 16th. Samantha Postillion finished tied for 11th at 219, and Ember Schuldt tied for 19th at 220 as the Illini finished in 16th place at the 20-team Marsh Landing Invitational at Ponte Vedra, Fla.
