Bollant lands post player

CHAMPAIGN — The Illinois women’s basketball team picked up an oral commitment from one of the top prep centers in Nebraska on Tuesday night.

Chatrice White of Shelby-Rising High School in Shelby, Neb., gave Illinois its second player in the Class of 2014 from the Cornhusker state. Shooting guard Brooke Kissinger from Minden High School committed to Matt Bollant’s program two weeks ago.

White is 6 feet, 3 inches and averaged 23 points, 13 rebounds and four blocks last winter for Shelby-Rising, which is a school of roughly 120 students about an hour northwest of Lincoln, Neb. She said she picked Illinois over Nebraska, Oklahoma State and Purdue.

White credited the success Illinois had in its first season under Bollant, along with the relationships she has built with Bollant and assistant coach Mike Divilbiss for steering her to Illinois.

“Coach Bollant and Coach Divilbiss are doing great things at Illinois,” White said. “I’m so excited to play under them and play as part of their team. I just really wanted to be a part of something great that I think they’re building.”
