Illini baseball in NCAAs

The Illini baseball team is headed to Nashville, Tenn., for the NCAA tournament. Illinois (34-18) was selected Monday to the 64-team field as an at-large entrant and assigned to the Nashville (Tenn.) Regional.

The Illini will open play at 1 p.m. Friday against Georgia Tech (34-25) of the Atlantic Coast Conference. Like Illinois, Georgia Tech went 1-2 in its conference tournament last week..

The four-team Nashville Regional field includes host Vanderbilt (51-9), which earned a No. 2 national seed. The Commodores wlll face East Tennessee State (36-22) on Friday in the other regional first-round game.

Game times have yet to be announced.

Illinois is seeded third in the regional, while Georgia Tech is the No. 2 seed.
