Hartleb misses game due to family emergency

Illini baseball head coach Dan Hartleb missed Friday's Big Ten series opener against Purdue due to a family emergency.

Hartleb left for Ohio Thursday morning to be with his father, who had surgery earlier this week. It was the ninth-year UI coach's second trip to his home state this week  for that reason.

It's uncertain whether Hartleb will rejoin the team for either of its remaining two games of the series, on Saturday and Sunday, according to UI sports information assistant Matt Wille.

In Hartleb's absence, associate head coach Eric Snider and pitching coach Drew Dickinson directed the Illini Friday.
