Fletcher picks up accolades

After going 8 for 17 (.471) with five home runs, 10 RBI, a slugging percentage of 1.353 and two walk-off hits last week, Casey Fletcher has received widespread attention.

The Illinois right fielder on Tuesday was named Big Ten Player of the Week after leading the Illini to a win against Southern Illinois and a three-game sweep of Michigan State.

The junior from Oakwood also headlined the Louisville Slugger National Players of the Week list from Collegiate Baseball Newspaper and was recognized as one of five top performers of the week by NCAA.com.

Fletcher and the Illini return to action Friday at Iowa for the start of a three-game Big Ten series.
