Baseball clinches series win
By The News-Gazette
IOWA CITY, Iowa — The Illinois baseball team remained in second place in the Big Ten and assured itself of a series win after beating the Iowa Hawkeyes 5-1 on Saturday.
Solid pitching from John Kravetz and Ronnie Muck, along with timely hitting throughout the lineup, helped the Illini to their sixth consecutive win.
Kravetz held Iowa to six hits in 71/3 innings, striking out two, before Muck threw 12/3 innings of relief. He fanned two and recorded his second save of the season.
“John was outstanding,” UI coach Dan Hartleb said. “He only ran into a little trouble in the eighth, (and) then Ronnie came in and did a very, very good job.”
Ryan Nagle (2 for 4) and Jason Goldstein (2 for 5) had multi-hit games for Illinois (29-17, 15-5 Big Ten). Will Krug, Kelly Norris-Jones, David Kerian, Reid Roper and Ryne Roper each tallied one RBI.
“Our offensive production has really come a long way,” Hartleb said. “I don’t think Iowa played poorly, but we just had a quality game.”
