Baseball team draws even with Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb. — One game’s left for Illinois in the Big Ten baseball regular season. It means something.

The Illini pulled into a second-place tie with Nebraska Friday night, topping the Cornhuskers 5-1. Each team is 17-6 in league play entering Saturday’s 1 p.m. finale.

Adam Walton’s two-run homer allowed Illinois (31-18) to overcome a 1-0 deficit in the fifth inning. UI starter Kevin Duchene had a streak of 14 consecutive batters retired entering the seventh inning, but he needed relief help from Ronnie Muck to escape a jam. Muck registered three consecutive strikeouts to end the threat.

Walton had three hits, including his first home run.
