Stryganek finishes strong

EUGENE, Ore. — Illinois’ Brandon Stryganek claimed second-team All-America honors, placing 15th in the 200 meters Thursday at the NCAA Track and Field Championships.

Stryganek was timed in 20.95 seconds.
In baseball:

UI reliever honored. Illinois junior-to-be Tyler Jay was voted to the ABCA/Rawlings All-Mideast Region Second Team by the region’s 38 head coaches.

Jay, who earned second-team All-Big Ten honors, was 10 for 10 in save chances last season. He went 4-1 and had a 1.94 ERA.

In golf:

Illini-to-be falls in semifinals.
Incoming Illini golfer Dana Gattone of Addison lost 2 and 1 to Hui Chong Dofflemyer of Belvidere in the championship-flight semifinals of the Illinois Women’s State Am on Thursday at Crestwicke Country Club in Bloomington.

Earlier Thursday, Gattone defeated Naperville’s Taylor Arenson 6 and 5 in the quarterfinals.
