Play ball!

You're going to be hearing that a lot this season on WDWS 1400-AM, starting Saturday.

The station will carry all the Illinois baseball games this season. SCOTT BEATTY handles the early action, calling Illinois' three games this weekend in St. Louis. Beatty is filling in for DAVE LOANE, the longtime voice of Illinois baseball, while Loane finishes the women's basketball season.

The team was originaly scheduled to play today in Beaumont, Texas, but its flight was canceled.

Beatty is working Illinois games Feb. 23-25 at Conway, S.C., March 2-4 in Minneapolis and March 9-11 in Greenville, S.C.

Loane returns to the baseball team for the Illinois home opener March 13 against Milwaukee.

During the home season, Loane will be joined by analyst JEFF HUTH. The longtime Illinois baseball beat writer for The News-Gazette has been in the booth with Loane since leaving the paper.

Beatty will also call at least five Illinois softball games on WDWS: March 28 against Northwestern, April 4 game at Illinois State, April 21 vs. Iowa, April 25 vs. Eastern Illinois and May 5 vs. Nebraska. WDWS will also carry postseason games if the team qualifies.

On to my weekend recommendations:

"A Bug's Life," 7 p.m., ABC

With the Olympics on NBC, the other networks try to draw your attention with family movies. Dave Foley voices Flik, an ant who gets his colony in trouble with a bad-guy grasshopper voiced by Kevin Spacey. Flik finds a way to save the day. No bugs were harmed in the making of this animated film.

"He's Just Not That Into You," 6:30 p.m., E!

An odd choice to show on Valentine's week. The 2009 film is a bit on the long side and did so-so with the critics. Judge for yourselves. Stars include Jennifer Aniston, Ben Affleck and Drew Barrymore.

NBA All-Star Game: 6 p.m., TNT

West vs. East is out, replaced by Team LeBron vs. Team Stephen. T.O.T.M. loves the idea. In a cool twist, both Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving ended up on LeBron James' team. Should be interesting. The halftime show includes Kevin Hart. My guess on the final score: Team LeBron 200, Team Stephen 199.
