Hodan wins Big Ten beam title

CHAMPAIGN — Bridget Hodan is a Big Ten champion.

Hodan collected the title on balance beam with a 9.900.

It wasn't enough, however, to lift Illinois to a team crown. The Illini women's gymnastics team took third place at the Big Ten Championships. Illinois scored 196.625 overall behind Michigan (197.200) and Nebraska (196.950) in Saturday's conference finals at State Farm Center.

The Illini netted 48.900 on vault, 49.075 on beam and 49.375 on floor They also tied a season-best 49.275 on bars with the help of sophomore Karen Howell's career-best 9.925.

Baseball clinches Big Ten-opening series

The Illinois baseball team edged Northwestern with a 5-4 victory on Saturday in 11 innings, clinching the series.

Michael Massey went 3 for 5 at the plate with a double and a game-high 2 RBI. Doran Turchin's RBI double accounted for the go-ahead run in extras. 

Baumgarten claims title for Illini men's golf

Bryan Baumgarten surged on the back nine, leading the Illinois men's golf team to a title in Saturday's final round of the BIGHORN Invitational in Palm Desert, Calif.

Baumgarten, who bagged six birdies in the final nine holes, won individual medalist honors at 11-under par — the sophomore's first career title.

The Illini also claimed the event's team title, closing the tournament with a total score of 40-under par ahead of Mississippi State (30-under) and Colorado (21-under).

Women's golf tied for 3rd entering final day

The No. 23 Illinois women's golf team is tied for third overall at the Mountain View Collegiate entering today's final round in Tuscon, Ariz. Tristyn Nowlin shot 75 and sits at fifth overall (144).

Women's tennis sweeps UC-Santa Barbara

The seventh-ranked Illinois women's tennis team cruised to a 4-0 victory at UC-Santa Barbara on Saturday. The Illini (14-2) won at the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles positions, while in singles, Jaclyn Switkes, Mia Rabinowitz and Emilee Duong each claimed victories in straight sets for Illinois.

Seven athletes win titles in outdoor track and field debut

Illinois men's track and field took home six titles from the SIU Bill Cornell Spring Classic on Saturday.

Sprinters Devin Quinn (100-meter) and Joe Haight (200) each won individual titles as well as running on the title-winning 400 relay with Mo Maat and Cole Henderson.

David Kendziera (400 hurdles), Jacob LaRocca (pole vault) and Matsen Dziedzic (hammer throw) also claimed individual titles.

For the women's team, Sara McKeeman won the pole vault title.
