Top of the Morning, April 19, 2019

A couple News-Gazette Media notes:

— This morning on WDWS, longtime Illini radio voice DAVE LOANE announced his retirement. The longtime play-by-play man for UI volleyball, women's basketball and baseball joined sidekick and host DAVE GENTRY in our "Morning Show" studios to deliver the news.

SCOTT BEATTY, host of "Sports Talk" on WDWS, is calling the NCAA men's gymnastics championships today for Fighting Illini Productions. Coverage can be seen on BTN2GO.

"I'm essentially a guide for the viewer," Beatty said. "But I'll stay away from analysis. You don't want me breaking down the technical elements of the pommel horse; I'll leave that to the experts."

Beatty will be working with current Illini gymnasts JUSTIN JEPSEN, DANIEL LASENBBY, SEBASTIAN QUIANA and ZACH TREADWAY.

Two six-team prequalifying sesssions are scheduled for 1 and 7 p.m. today at State Farm Center. Illinois is part of the second session that features four-time defending champion Oklahoma.

Chefs Anne Burrell and Tyler Florence lead celebrities in a high-pressure cooking boot camp. Contestants include Morgan Fairchild, Jimmie Walker and Tonya Harding.
