UI roundup: Three Illini selected for U.S. volleyball tryouts

CHAMPAIGN — Three Illinois volleyball players will be among the 234 athletes competing at the U.S. Women’s National Team Open Tryout from March 2-4 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. Set to compete are setter Jordyn Poulter, rising opposite Megan Cooney and libero Morgan O’Brien.

Former stars happy to get Hall call

CHAMPAIGN — Since last June, we've known Lou Henson will headline the next Illinois Athletics Hall of Fame class. On Thursday, the rest of the honorees were named.

Twenty-one in total, including Henson, representing 13 different sports and multiple eras.

The second Illinois athletics Hall of Fame class already featured Lou Henson.

That much was known when Illinois athletic director Josh Whitman announced last summer that Henson, the all-time winningest men’s basketball coach in Illinois history, would headline the latest class.

Promising returnees could spark Illini turnaround

CHAMPAIGN — Illinois baseball has taken its lumps in the two years following its 50-win season and Super Regional appearance in 2015.

The Illini have played .500 ball since that record-setting year, including a 23-28 mark last season as freshmen and sophomores filled nearly every key role from the lineup to rotation and bullpen.
