5 O'Clock Shadow: Rayfield, DiBernardo, Carosio honored

News you can't leave work without: Illinois' Janet Rayfield was named women's soccer Big Ten Coach of the Year after leading her team to second place. The Illini are 14-4-1 overall and 8-2-1 in the Big Ten heading into this week's conference tournament in Evanston.

The Illini are ranked No. 20 with an RPI rating of No. 32.

Also Tuesday, the Illini's Vanessa DiBernardo was named the BIg Ten's Midfield of the Year. She leads the Illini in points (35) and goals (15), seven of which were the game-winning variety.

Also, Jenna Carosio was named Defender of the Year. She led an Illini defense that allowed nine goals in conference play and at one point notched five consecutive shutouts.

DiBernardo, Carosio and Marissa Mykines (forward) were named All-Big Ten.

Jannelle Flaws and Stephanie Pouse of Illinois were named to the All-Freshman Team.

Kristen Gierman was the Illini's Sportsmanship Award Honoree.
