Wednesday afternoon at Camp Rantoul

Twice a day — at noon and 5 p.m. — beat writer Bob Asmussen will check in with updates from Camp Rantoul. E-mail him questions at asmussen@news-gazette.com.

- Cornerback Miami Thomas, who missed most of the 2008 with a torn ACL in his right knee, had an MRI scheduled late this afternoon. But coach Ron Zook said it looks as if Thomas tore the ACL in his left knee. If that's the case, he will miss the 2009 season and could petition later to get the year back.

- The Illinois staff is getting good at reading weather radar. They found the window to have practice and moved the session up about 90 minutes. As the team was leaving the field, ominous clouds were rolling in. And the rain started soon after.

- The Big Ten Network crew worked quickly to get its shows done for tonight. Illinois will be featured at 9 p.m.

- Former Illini great Ruck Steger attended Wednesday's session.
