Thursday afternoon at Camp Rantoul

Twice a day — at noon and 5 p.m. — beat writer Bob Asmussen will check in with updates from Camp Rantoul. E-mail him questions at asmussen@news-gazette.com.

- Starting right guard Jon Asamoah, who has missed several days with an illness, isn't practicing this afternoon. We will get more details about his condition from Ron Zook after practice.

- The No. 1 defense appears to be taking shape. The line is a combination of three ends and three tackles, with two starters and a top sub working at both spots. The guess here for the starting line against Missouri: Doug Pilcher, Josh Brent, Corey Liuget, and Clay Nurse.

- The team spent an early part of the practice kicking field goals. Both Matt Eller and Derek Dimke were given a chance from short and long distances. Most of the tries, against a rush, were good.

- For the second time at Camp Rantoul, the team had a session during which quarterbacks Nathan Scheelhaase and Jacob Charest were live. Both were sacked a time or two.
