Bob's random thought on Brent

Beat writer Bob Asmussen offers his thoughts on Josh Brent’s decision not to return to Illinois:
“Your first instinct is to say, ‘What a waste.’ But I don’t think we can make that statement just yet. Given Brent’s situation, and the fact that he couldn’t come back to Illinois until the 2011 season, if at all, the decision makes some sense. It gives him an opportunity to continue his football career. Certainly, one NFL team will view him worthy of a fourth- or fifth-round draft choice. The big concern for Brent, of course, is that he gets in a situation where he can’t make the team and is left with nowhere to play. But his size and athletic ability have always been a positive for him. He’s gotta make all the off-the-field stuff work if he wants to have a long, successful NFL career. Having gotten to know him, it’ll be easy to root for Brent.”
