Sanni lost for the season

Starting safety Supo Sanni has been lost for the season with a torn Achilles tendon, Illinois coach Ron Zook said today.

The injury was suffered during Wednesday's practice. Sanni will have surgery today.

"I feel bad for him, but he'll be all right," Zook said.

Sanni hasn't redshirted and will have two years of eligibility remaining.

Trulon Henry and Travon Bellamy are now the starters at safety. Bellamy had been contending for a starting spot.

To help with depth in the secondary, Justin Green has been moved from running back to cornerback.

"The last couple days, he's really looked good," Zook said. "He's been very, very impressive."

Receiver Steve Hull is likely to be tried at safety, Zook said.

And the saga continues as we keep getting thinner and thinner. It's going to be a long year.

Ohio State and others wanted Justin for corner to start with. Only Illinois offered running back. Hopefully he can still get some plays at running back which was the position he wanted to play and helped us get him. He is such a tremendous athlete that picturing him and Terry at corner creates an NFL caliber pair of corners talent wise. If Justin decides he wants to stay at corner long term, he and Terry would give us amazing talent at that position. Losing Supo is a huge loss. As he continues to learn the position and gets experience he has big time talent and a bright future. I feel bad for him as I know its tough to have to watch for a season. If we had not added Trulon we would have been in trouble when we lost Supo.

Well, this news takes Illinois from 10 wins to 2. Errrr.........check that. No offense to Sanni, but regardless of this news, this team will be lucky to win 2 regardless.

Wrong-way Himey thinks we will be lucky for us to win 2 "regardless." LOL

Great, I now think we win 6 and might actually sneak into a bowl game this year.

I hope Green can play well with Hawthorne - That could give us a really, really good secondary, adding that kind of speed and ability to an already solid group.

The DL scares me a little, but our D could actually be decent this year.
