The Illinois Board of Trustees will be asked to approve new football coach Tim Beckman's contract at its Jan. 19 meeting. Beckman will receive $1.6 million for the 2012 season, with a $100,000 increase scheduled each season of the five-year deal.
Illinois is also providing a $130,000 payment to buy out Beckman's contract at Toledo.
Beckman has a pool of $2.8 million for his nine assistant coaches and three other staff positions (director of football operations, associate head strength coach and director of high school operations).
Wow! $4.4 million dollars for a football staff? So far haven't seen anyone on the new staff that looks the part or has the track record to command a high salary. Underwhelming staff to say the least and unlikely to perform the miracles expected for their new pay grade.
This is just another stupid move. a 4X raise for an unproven coach at this level. This is such a joke. He coached Toledo my god. MT just wants someone he can own. The anger from PSU alums at their hire should be nothing compared to what the donors here show. Hold the checks boys until we see if this guy can coach. So far he cant' even put together a staff of anything but mid major wanna bes.
