Illini assistant refutes report

CHAMPAIGN — Illinois co-offensive coordinator Billy Gonzales is denying a report by Sporting News that he had an altercation with a player during his time on the staff at Florida.

The article by Matt Hayes looks at the Florida program during the Urban Meyer era. It mentions an alleged confrontation between then-Gators assistant Gonzales and Florida receiver Percy Harvin.

"In response to a recent story alleging an incident between Percy Harvin and me and

while at Florida, the story is inaccurate. It didn't happen," Gonzales said.

Gonzales left the Florida program to work at LSU before joining Tim Beckman's staff at Illinois.

Meyer, the current coach at Ohio State, left Florida after the 2010 season for health reasons. He took a year away from coaching to serve as an ESPN analyst.
