'Athlete' picks Illinois

Illinois football picked up its 11th recruit of the 2013 class when Caleb Day of Darby High in Hilliard, Ohio, gave his verbal pledge Thursday morning. The 6-foot, 188-pound senior-to-be is listed as an athlete, but he will likely initially get a look as a defensive back for the Illini.

Day attended an Illinois one-day camp in Champaign about two weeks ago. He chose Illinois over offers from the likes of Cincinnati, Arkansas and Louisville and interest from the likes of Michigan and Ohio State.

Day is Illinois' fifth recruit in this class from coach Tim Beckman's native Ohio. Day is also the third defensive back in this class.
