Another day, another football recruit

Illinois football secured its fourth commitment in the last six days when senior-to-be defensive end Dawuane Smoot of Groveport Madison High in Ohio gave his verbal pledge.

Smoot became the 14th member and second defensive end of the 2013 class for the Illini. His commitment also continued a pattern of coach Tim Beckman delving into his native Ohio for talent; Smoot is the sixth recruit in the class from the Buckeye State.

The 6-foot-3, 225-pound Smoot chose Illinois over offers from a host of MAC schools, including Toledo and Western Michigan. Indiana had also offered, and Michigan State had shown interest.

Welcome to Illini Nation Mr Smoots!

This triggers a memory ... "How Many Smoot's end-to-end does it take to measure the Massachusetts Avenue bridge in Cambridge MA?"

A:  It depends.  MIT's answer is 364.4 Smoot's but that guy was a team manager.  Dawuane being a defensive end, it should take only 325.34 Smoot's.

Cheers!
