Illini's All-Transfer Team

Illini's All-Transfer Team

The Illini All-Transfer teams — most prominent players who transferred to Illinois from four-year schools since 1960 — courtesy resident historian Loren Tate:

Football

Gabe de la Garza, linebacker (1987) - When SMU's 1987 season was canceled, scandal delivered surprising and effective addition to Mike White's defensive roster

Jim Klein, wide receiver (1992-94) - Who could forget WIU transfer? His 15-yard touchdown catch in '93 handed Illinois its first win at Michigan in almost 30 years

Jon Beutjer, quarterback (2002-04) - Former News-Gazette All-State Player of the Year left Iowa and finished seventh on list of career passing leaders at Illinois

Winston Taylor, linebacker (2002-03) - Again, list for standout football transfers a short one; Mount Zion product moved from Eastern Illinois and proved a difference-maker for Illini

Akim Millington, tackle (2006-07) - Former News-Gazette All-Stater (Wheaton) returned home after two seasons at Oklahoma; Rashard Mendenhall was glad he did

Basketball

Derek Holcomb, forward (1978-81) - Peoria Richwoods grad left scholarship at Bob Knight's Indiana, sat out a season, paid in-state tuition at Illinois

Kenny Battle, forward (1987-89) - Northern Illinois' loss was Flyin' Illini's gain; Still holds single-season steals record (89) from arguably UI's greatest team

Trent Meacham, guard (2006-09) - Dayton transfer (left) arrived just as other shooting guards fell by wayside (Jamar Smith, Quinton Watkins, Eric Gordon)

Alex Legion, guard (2008-10) - Rayvonte Rice won't need to do much to make this list; UI basketball rarely has taken quality transfers, as Legion's move from Kentucky attests

Sam Maniscalco, guard (2011-12) - Bradley grad keyed wins against Richmond, Maryland, Gonzaga before ankle flared; Pro leagues in Italy, Spain, Turkey expressing interest

Basketball:

Marcus Griffin 1997-99 (Lincoln College)

Jack Ingram 2003-05 (Tulane)

Football:

Mike Bellamy 1989-1990 (College of Dupage)

...a little more research first Loren???

I believe Ingram was from Tulsa.  But point made...this article was sloppy and unnecessary.  I enjoyed reading the Captcha entries more than this waste of time.

It's absurd to overlook Ken Norman.
