Paul Klee's take on Wisconsin's 31-14 win against Illinois:
Player of the Game: Jared Abbrederis
Hard to believe the blazing-fast wideout is a former walk-on. His 59-yard TD catch was his fifth reception over 45 yards. He leads the Big Ten in receiving yards.
Offense
Illinois: D
Wisconsin: A
Three starts, three games of 200-plus passing yards for Wisconsin freshman Joel Stave. On the other side, Illinois is searching for an offensive identity.
Defense
Illinois: B
Wisconsin: A
The final score wasn’t indicative of the UI defense’s performance. Jonathan Brown gets our game ball for leading the UI with nine tackles at less-than-full health.
Special teams
Illinois: D
Wisconsin: C
The shanked punt seemed to deflate the visitors. Instead of cornering the Badgers, it allowed them enviable field position near the 50.
Overall
Illinois: C
Wisconsin: A
Another blowout, right? Not so. The Illini stayed competitive before collapsing in the fourth quarter. But that’s where the program is: Moral victories are viewed as progress.
You are right, oandb -- another whitewash by the Sleepy Gazoo. Or perhaps hogwash is a better word to describe it.
The Sleepy Gazoo sportswriters don't see themselves as out to reflect the truth and reality. They cheerlead hoping Illini sports will be perceived as better than it is and that they will, by association, be perceived as big time sportswriters.
The team gets at least a D and probably an F. So does the Sleepy Gazoo.
The article ends by saying: "Another blowout, right? Not so. The Illini stayed competitive before collapsing in the fourth quarter. But that’s where the program is: Moral victories are viewed as progress."
I watched the game, and I'd be hard-pressed to call it a "moral victory"...
