Ex-Illini in the NFL update: Hayden chips in

How former Illini fared this week:

JEFF ALLEN and JON ASAMOAH, Chiefs. Starting guards helped put up 148 yards rushing in loss to Broncos, but Brady Quinn was sacked twice.

ALAN BALL, Texans. Starting cornerback was second on the team with six tackles and broke up two passes in Thanksgiving Day win at Detroit.

ARRELIOUS BENN, Buccaneers. Placed on injured reserve for the second time in three seasons, this time because of a right knee injury.

JOSH BRENT, Cowboys. Starting nose tackle had four tackles and a quarterback hurry against the Redskins on Thanksgiving.

JEFF CUMBERLAND, Jets. Starting tight end had four catches for 58 yards in loss to Patriots on Thanksgiving.

VONTAE DAVIS, Colts. Cornerback (left knee) was not active for win against Buffalo.

DAVE DIEHL, Giants. Starting right tackle kept the Packers away from Eli Manning (one sack).

KELVIN HAYDEN, Bears. Cornerback had four tackles and defended two passes against the Vikings.

MICHAEL HOOMANAWANUI, Patriots. Tight end saw action but didn’t catch a pass Thanksgiving Day rout of Jets.

A.J. JENKINS, 49ers. Rookie receiver was — surprise! — inactive for the win at New Orleans.

MIKEL LESHOURE, Lions. Pride of Centennial had 32 yards rushing, 27 yards receiving and scored the game’s first touchdown in loss to Texans.

COREY LIUGET, Chargers. Starting defensive end had six tackles, a sack and a pass defended in an overtime loss to the Ravens.

BRANDON LLOYD, Patriots. Starting receiver was targeted six times and made three grabs for 26 yards against the Jets on Thanksgiving.

RASHARD MENDENHALL, Steelers. Tailback had a bad day against the Browns: four carries for 6 yards and two fumbles (one lost).

WHITNEY MERCILUS, Texans. Rookie linebacker had four tackles, including two for loss, against the Lions.

BRIT MILLER, Rams. Special teams captain was released Tuesday.

BRANDON MOORE, Jets. Not starting right guard’s fault the Jets are awful, although Mark Sanchez got sacked twice and the team was held to

119 yards rushing in latest loss.

PIERRE THOMAS, Saints. Backup tailback basically had the day off against the 49ers (one carry for no gain).

STEVE WEATHERFORD, Giants. Averaged 45.0 yards on three punts against the Packers.

MARTEZ WILSON, Saints. Reserve defensive end played just a tad against the 49ers (no tackles).

TAVON WILSON, Patriots. Backup defensive back assisted on a special teams tackle against the Jets.
