Former Illini in the NFL update: Week 13

A look at how former Illini fared in the NFL in Week 13 — when five former Illini punched their playoff tickets:

JEFF ALLEN and JON ASAMOAH, Chiefs. Solid day for starting guards, who led a 158-yard rushing attack and kept QB Brady Quinn upright (one sack) in win against visiting Panthers following Saturday’s tragedy.

ALAN BALL, Texans. Cornerback (foot injury) was not active for win at Tennessee.

JOSH BRENT, Cowboys. Nose tackle had two tackles and forced a fumble — which was returned by a teammate for a touchdown — in win against visiting Eagles.

JEFF CUMBERLAND, Jets. Backup tight end had the lone score in home win against Cardinals, catching a 4-yard TD pass from third-string QB Greg McElroy after Mark Sanchez was benched. Also caught a 24-yard pass.

VONTAE DAVIS, Colts. Starting corner returned from left knee injury, making six solo tackles (one for loss), and knocked down a pass in last-second win at Detroit.

DAVE DIEHL, Giants. Plays Monday night at Washingotn.

KELVIN HAYDEN, Bears. Cornerback had two tackles and recovered a fumble in OT loss to visiting Seahawks.

MICHAEL HOOMANAWANUI, Patriots. Backup tight end saw action (no catches) in win at Miami.

A.J. JENKINS, 49ers. Rookie receiver was — surprise! — inactive for loss at St. Louis.

MIKEL LESHOURE, Lions. Pride of Centennial ran for 57 yards on 21 carries, including a 6-yard TD run, but the visiting Colts rallied for a last-second victory.

COREY LIUGET, Chargers. Starting defensive end had five tackles in loss to visiting Bengals.

BRANDON LLOYD, Patriots. Starting receiver caught one pass for 10 yards and grabbed final onside kick to seal win at Miami.

RASHARD MENDENHALL, Steelers. Tailback was scratched (knee) from Sunday’s win at Baltimore.

WHITNEY MERCILUS, Texans. Starting rookie linebacker had a big game in win at Tennessee, recording two tackles — both sacks — and recovering a fumble.

BRANDON MOORE, Jets. Starting right guard helped pave way for 177 rushing yards, but still struggled protecting QBs (three sacks) in home win against Cardinals.

PIERRE THOMAS, Saints. Backup tailback had 84 yards rushing, caught a pass (5 yards) and had a 10-yard TD run taken away following a review in loss at Atlanta.

STEVE WEATHERFORD, Giants. Catch the punter Monday night at Washington.

MARTEZ WILSON, Saints. Reserve defensive end played just a bit (no tackles) in loss at Atlanta.

TAVON WILSON, Patriots. Starting cornerback had one tackle in win at Miami.
