Bob says ...
We asked college football beat writer Bob Asmussen for his take:
It’s quantity as much as quality that is pushing Illinois toward the top of the Big Ten. Nobody will have more new players entering the 2013 season. And nobody will have a bigger influx of help at the semester break. No surprise to see Michigan and Ohio State at the top of the rankings. They are both having big recruiting seasons, even picking players off each other’s lists. Good to see that rivalry is going strong. The surprise recruiting class: Go with Indiana, which is doing better now that Kevin Wilson has won a few games. Maybe basketball helps, too.
Can you guys please include the name of the sport somewhere in the first couple lines of your articles? When you just launch into "With less than two months before signing day, here is how the national scouting services rank the Big Ten recruiting classes:" we don't know if you're talking football, men's basketball, women's basketball, volleyball, etc.
If we know the writer's beat, that helps, but it would be easier to just add a little tag under the headline that says "Football", "Men's Basketball", etc. The articles are tagged anyway in your website system, so they can appear on the various sport-specific tabs -- just show us the tag, too.
Thanks!
