Illini lose OL coach

A person familiar with the decision says Illinois offensive line coach Jim Bridge is leaving just over a month after he was hired.

Bridge is taking a job at Purdue, according to the person who was not authorized to publicly discuss the departure and spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity Tuesday.

Bridge was hired Jan. 23 by Illinois coach Tim Beckman. He will become an assistant on first-year Purdue coach Darrell Hazell’s staff.

The Illini start spring practices Tuesday and had announced last week they’d finished filling out their staff.

Beckman has already turned over more than half his staff after a 2-10 season. The school said he was not available for comment.

Here we go again, one month in and we lose him. There are some serious issues with Coach Beckman that must be addressed before we have 22,000 people in the seats for a home game.

Buzzmaster is right--but does the Sleepy Gazoo do the reporting and ask the tough questions? Naw--that cuts into ego time at the Esquire. Gotta mug for the camera rather than report.

Great Football programs have continuity.     The Illini have the opposite.   Can someone please find the stats on how many coaching changes have occured in the past 5 years?   I am guessing that a 4 year senior at Illinois has seen 3 or 4 different position coaches,

Once again, what makes anyone think that they will be able to recruit enough to make the record any better. We have injuries already. The same QB back again with yet another offensive coordinator and we cant even keep a coach for a month and then he goes to greener pastures.

I couldn't agree more.  This program is becoming an embarrasment.  I will try and hang in there with Coach Beckman but from those who are closer to the program than me, things probably are not going to get any better.

Moonpie, would that you were as incompetent at typing as at reading. This is an AP story. Your nemesis in your one-sided war is not a reporter, but a columnist. Get lost.

The Beckman death march continues to run downhill gaining speed and casting off coaches, recruits, and fans in its wake.

The tid bit by Tate that Butkus was unhappy and wanted to quit in mid-season speaks volumes but there is more to that and the TB story that Tate isn't telling due to the long standing gag rule instituted and enforced by the DIA and the News Gazette.

You can't make the stink smell better its still there. Like when someone sprays Glade in the bathroom. "is that better?....Not really, now it smells like someone sh-- a Xmas tree" Yep the stink is still there.

Have fun with all 25,000 fans in a 62,000 stadium....and that'll be the good days. i won't be one of them until this crapfest is flushed into oblivion.

Agree with Illini82. Said that from the beginning that Thomas panicked and pulled the trigger on Beckman. Like a crap shoot in Vegas, well, might have had better odds in Vegas at the tables than on Beckman. Now, Thomas has hit homeruns with Groce and Bollant so 2 out of 3 is not bad, but he could have done much better with this hire.

Everyone knows that winners want to be around winners, and like several articles have said, 5 coaches have left voluntarily, voluntarily, 5. Wow! Beckman just has to be a real bona-fide winner, thankfully we have him to coach for us! Swell! Apparently we took one for the team, the "team" being every single other college program on earth.

As have mentioned before, gave up season tickets for this embarrassing fiasco. Also said that every dollar that would have donated, spent on tickets, concsessions, etc., all of it goes into a fund that will be given to the Sports Dept as soon as the insanity is over. I am betting that is going to be a very substantial sum. Hope I live long enough to do that.
