Counting down the 50 most important Illini

No. 45: Jevaris Little, defensive back

Why he’s important: He didn’t play a down last fall, but he could see significant time on the field this fall. He’ll likely start the season in a backup cornerback role, but with a young secondary already in place, no telling if Little could vault ahead of several other players by the time Southern Illinois arrives on the schedule. He has the speed in place, but needs to make sure he’s not beaten physically by other wide receivers.

Fast fact: The St. Petersburg, Fla., native narrowed his college options to either Indiana or Illinois late in the process. After Mike Thomas hired Tim Beckman, Little followed Beckman, who had recruited him heavily at Toledo, to Champaign-Urbana.

Tomorrow: No. 44
