Rice highlights Caravan greats

Matt Domer is the latest in a long line of Chicago Mount Carmel products to play at Illinois. Here’s a look at three notable standouts who used to wear the Brown and White of the Caravan who had success with the Illini:

Simeon Rice

A two-time All-American who totaled a program-best 44.5 sacks
at Illinois, Rice ended up as the No. 3 pick in the 1996 NFL draft. Finished his pro career with 122 sacks, tied for 13th all time, in a 12-year career with four teams.

Matt Cushing
Tight end

Continued steady stream of tight end production (64 catches for 709 yards, four touchdowns in four seasons) after Ken Dilger graduated. Parlayed his skill into a six-year NFL career with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Jerry Schumacher

His No. 42 was easy to spot on the field because he was usually around the ball. Led Illinois in tackles during 2001 season (125) and 2002 season (122) and stands 10th all time in career tackles with 370.
