Lunt's favorite target joining Illini

ROCHESTER — Zach Grant will have a chance to reunite with Wes Lunt at Illinois.

The former Rochester wide receiver who set an IHSA state record when he had 2,310 receiving yards on 131 catches and scored 23 touchdowns during his senior season in 2011 is transferring to Illinois, sources close to the program said.

Lunt quarterbacked the Rochester teams Grant played on, which included the 2010 and 2011 Class 4A state championship teams.

Grant suited up at St. Ambrose, an NAIA school in Davenport, Iowa, last fall. Didn’t do too shabby either.

The 6-foot-1, 190-pounder led the Bees with 91 receptions for 1,170 yards and 16 touchdowns. He established school records at St. Ambrose in catches and receiving touchdowns.

He transferred to Northern Illinois at semester last school year as a preferred walk-on and would sit out the 2013 season under transfer rules before deciding to head to Illinois. He will be eligible for the 2014 season and have three seasons of eligibility left.
