Fotu commits to Illinois

Fotu commits to Illinois

Illinois has hit the junior college ranks hard during Tim Beckman's first two seasons.

They added another JUCO player on Tuesday morning when Siosifa Fotu gave a verbal commitment to Illinois.

Fotu is the 16th commit for Illinois in the Class of 2014 and fourth JUCO player.

Fotu is a defensive end from Laney College in Oakland, Calif.

He played high school football at San Leandro High School in suburban San Francisco before playing two seasons at Laney.

Fotu picked Illinois ahead of an offer from New Mexico and interest from Arizona State and California.

Defensive line coach Greg Colby and Beckman served as Fotu's primary recruiters.

"One of the big reasons why I chose Illinois is God," Fotu said. "I  just did a lot of praying about it. I was sitting there with my family. We put all the good things and bad things about Illinois and compared it to the others. Illinois just came out on top."
