Brown commits to Illinois
Dre Brown became the second Class of 2015 prospect to give the Illinois football team an oral commitment.
Brown, a running back from DeKalb, committed to the Illini on Friday night.
"Committed to play Football and further my Education at the University of Illinois!!" Brown tweeted out at 5:29 p.m. on Friday. "#OurStateOurTeam #FightingForce15."
Brown's announcement via social media included him posting a picture of him running the ball at DeKalb with an Illinois logo in the background.
Brown, a 5-foot-11, 190-pound recruit who was a special mention 100 News-Gazette All-State selection this past season after he rushed for 1,584 yards and scored 26 touchdowns, was a frequent visitor to Illinois games both during the 2012 and 2013 seasons.
Recruiting coordinator Alex Golesh and outside linebackers coach Al Seamonson served as the primary recruiters for Brown, a three-star recruit who also had offers from Indiana, Kent State, Northern Illinois, Toledo and Western Michigan, along with interest from Iowa, Michigan State, Minnesota and Nebraska, among others.
Brown joins Centennial quarterback Jimmy Fitzgerald as the first two commits for Tim Beckman's program in the Class of 2015.
