Solomon picks Illini

Illinois recruiting coordinator Alex Golesh didn't hesitate two months ago when asked what the top position group priority was for the 2015 recruiting class.

Offensive linemen.

"Offensive line is the No. 1 need by far," Golesh said in late March. "At the offensive line, shoot, we’ll take as many as can play."

Illinois added to that group on Saturday night with a lineman the Illinois coaching staff highly coveted.

Adam Solomon, a Class of 2015 offensive tackle from Indianapolis Bishop Chatard High School, orally committed to the Illini.

He joins Gabe Megginson from Jacksonville as the second offensive lineman among the five commits Tim Beckman has in his next recruiting class.

Solomon, Megginson, Centennial quarterback Jimmy Fitzgerald, DeKalb running back Dre Brown and Reggie Corbin constitute the five commits Illinois has at the moment.

That's two more than they had at this point last week, with Corbin joining the fray on Tuesday before Solomon pledged on Saturday.

Solomon checks in at 6 feet 6, 290 pounds, and the three-star recruit held offers from three other Big Ten schools in Indiana, Minnesota and Purdue, along with offers from Ball State, Cincinnati, Duke, Kentucky, Ohio, Syracuse, Toledo and Western Michigan.

Illinois offensive line coach A.J. Ricker served as Solomon's primary recruiter.
