JUCO tight end chooses Illinois

The Illinois football team secured its third oral commitment in a five-day span on Sunday night when Iowa Western Community College tight end Andrew Davis gave a verbal pledge to Illinois.

Davis is the first tight end in the Class of 2015 for Illinois and first junior college player. Davis, at 6-foot-6 and 225 pounds, also held an offer from Texas.

He is the fourth Iowa Western player to choose Illinois after current players Martize Barr, Dallas Hinkhouse and Geronimo Allison picked to play for Tim Beckman.

Davis, a native of Marion, Iowa, had six catches for 64 yards last season for the Reivers, who finished 11-1 last fall.

Davis joins Centennial quarterback Jimmy Fitzgerald, DeKalb running back Dre Brown, Jacksonville offensive lineman Gabe Megginson, Washington (D.C.) Gonzaga College running back Reggie Corbin and Indianapolis offensive lineman Adam Solomon so far in the next recruiting class for Illinois.
